Ripe

An Autumn Equinox Poem

© 2022 by Joyce Mason

I fall off the tree

full of myself

so ripe my essence overflows

oozes back to Earth.

I cannot dam my seeping vitality.

I am the chasing arrows of cosmic creation.

I am fullness bearing my own fruit.

I am the autumn of my life,

the autumn of every life cycle,

I am the juice of my own potential.

I will not miss this bloated moment,

fullness over-the-top.

To miss it is to rot,

to cycle without harvest

to stifle everything I can be:

a magical explosion of me-a-tivity.

A Taste of Autumn 2020

Poem © 2020 by Joyce Mason

Choking on the smoke of environmental backlash,

I smell autumn beyond the notes of ash and human misery.

A nascent fall breeze sneaks into late summer to say hello.

My toes curl at the prospect of clean air blowing dried leaves

in eye-candy colors.

My heart skips a beat as childhood adages ride the wind.

“All good things come to an end.”

All bad things, too.

We sit on Libra’s Scales of Balance savoring a tiny appetizer of tomorrow.

Autumn, the Season of Fruition lets go everywhere in Technicolor and Panavision as we must for new winters, springs and summers to recur; their lessons from both beauty and tragedy to revive and rebuild us once more for another thrilling ride on the Roller Coaster known as the Wheel of Life.

Autumn/Fall Seesaw

Poem ©2018 by Joyce Mason

Wiping the sweat of Virgo off my brow,
I flash back to summer: fast growth, Sun and Moon rulers chasing their unruly children into new experiences on life’s playground.

I stop, breathe in all the blues and blessings of the last season.
Sit for me on the other side of Libra’s Scale.
Balance with me, the ups and downs of this teeter-totter life.
Watch your growth whiz by in the replay.

Take a deep breath, exhale and make room for what’s to come:
autumn, such beauty it borders on pain.
The heart-expanding Season of Gratitude melting into the Rebirth of Light.

This seesaw, Zodiac Circle always perfect if we have the eyes
to see what we saw.

Mercury Retrograde Autumn

Poem © 2015 by Joyce Mason

Moon and Ceres kiss in Capricorn:
I look back to see how
and what I have nurtured—fed.
Sun, North Node and Juno
Travel together in trio
opposite Vesta.
How have I held the flame,
my Olympic torch
toward new directions?

Autumn and the shift
from summer growth
remind us:
What we harvest depends on
what we plant and feed
and the direction we are headed.

So many planets in trine:
A symphony of weaving past, present
and future

Loud as falling leaves
No one time/space more important
Than the other—
Time Dancing as
One.

Gorge-us: An Autumn Equinox Poem

© 2014 by Joyce Mason

Trees so stuffed
they spit acorns
at my innocent bystander house.
Squirrels hit the jackpot,
gather their winnings
for winter feasts in hidden dreys.

Oaks aren’t the half of it.
Maples scream red-oranges.
Quaking aspens strike so much gold;
they quiver.

I worry, long after Virgo,
that I’ll never be able
to sort or digest
such blazing beauty--
colors, food, richness
busting out all over--
to find its nugget of truth.

Yet in my basket
from the farmer’s market
lies evidence of miracles.
Just seeds in spring,
 no other analysis needed.

I look to my own life
boggled by six months' growth
with all of autumn
still to gorge on.

Harvests: An Autumn Equinox Poem

© 2013 by Joyce Mason

Not all autumns
are created equal.
Bounty
varies in volume,
impact.

Every year
has its ripenings,
completions.
Then there are the harvests
that build on all the others:
the Full Harvest Moons
of Your Life

the autumns
you have been waiting for
since the day you were born.

They burst you
into the cornucopia
you were always meant to be.

Is this one of them?

Equinox Poem: “Autumn Me”

© 2012 by Joyce Mason

Cool breezes call me
to the autumn of my soul
farmer’s market of inner bounty
so overdone;
it’s almost obscene.
Colors so wanton
they put rainbows to shame.

I drink it all in
from gourds of change
smell the fall flowers of my bloom.
Flashbacks come
vibrant as the market scene
and leaves starting to burnish.

Déjà-vu: I see who
I was last winter
the seeds of becoming
planted in spring
the summer growth
and now, the yield.

I yield to my ripeness
bow to the Libra Sun
the new balance in my being
until I shed my autumn leaf skin
for winter hibernation
become another New Me
once more
nature’s loving
recycling loop.

Autumn is Me in Living Color
bursting with the courage
and accomplishment
of another year of living
from life’s full
palette of possibilities.

Semi-Circle/Autumn Equinox

© 2011 by Joyce Mason

Turning point:
leaves
floating
changing
Cardinal reds
breeze cooling

Inside myself
I harvest
the learning
another year’s growing
reaping my sowing

mourning the loss
of beauty peaking
just before dying
comfort seeking
trusting rebirth

the circle completing
another half-turn
come Spring:
“To everything …”
