Radical Reprise: Third Annual Prayer and Thanksgiving Month

 Posts © Joyce Mason

If it’s true, “the third’s a charm,” we’re in for a charming replay of past prayers and new additions during the rest of November. The Radical Virgo has hosted a prayer and gratitude meeting on these pages during the past two years, and the frequent posts have included astrological and generic prayers, plus many that are universal from multiple traditions.

The first two posts will reprise the many beautiful prayers and gratitude essays already posted. New ones will follow. Try one a day for the rest of the month. There are so many to choose from in these multiple flavors of diverse spirituality. Each prayer or article is lushly illustrated, and often the artwork is a prayer in and of itself.

Blessings,
Joyce

The Way We Pray (13-Nov-13)
There are many ways of praying: formal prayers, conversations with the Divine One (think Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof), and the sweet mantra of the rosary to name a few. In this post, I want to start a conversation about prayer—how you do it and how it works for you. I’ll start by sharing what works for my friends and me.

“May the warm winds of heaven blow softly upon your house …”

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want …”

“Lord, take me where You want me to go…” A beautiful short prayer whose irony has as much impact as its words, given it was written by a priest for the NY Fire Department who died in 9/11.

“Mother, sing me a song that will
Ease my pain, mend my broken bones
Bring wholeness again …”
Celebrates the 300th post on The Radical Virgo and honors this blog’s “patron saint,” Chiron.

An essay about how the universe answered a “missing person’s” prayer in a most startling way. Explore how the magnetism of prayer and desire work.

Thanksgiving Day: This post is a thank-you and early wrap-up of our prayer time together  … and a halleluiah to recognize how important prayer remains to most people on life’s journey. Covers the Pew Institute’s research on how people are becoming, in general, less religious and more generically spiritual.
