A Winter Solstice
Poem

And the Sun stood
still.
In a moment so
magical
it happens only twice
a year:
the Sun balanced light and dark
so perfectly
it stopped.
so perfectly
it stopped.
It invited us
to do the same.
And the Sun stood
still.
It turned down the
lights
for the long soulful nights ahead.
for the long soulful nights ahead.
And the Sun stood
still.
Darkest Day
Herald of the
Inner Time
your stark beauty
forces us to a window
to look out from inside.
Better to sit before
a fire
contemplating our own
spark of the Divine.
And the Sun stood
still
to remind us
we’re each as unique
as a snowflake
yet together
we blanket the world
with beauty--
we are visible
even in the darkness.
even in the darkness.
And the Sun stood
still
to get our attention
to ask us to be quiet
to return
to return
to where all the answers
lie
inside us
alone.
And the Sun stood still
And the Sun stood still
so we can see,
hear and feel
our heart connection
to every single
person
in every carol and
candle
and the truth
we already know
the glad tidings
we only have to get quiet enough
we only have to get quiet enough
to hear:
Peace on
Earth.
Love.
Love.

This is beautiful! :)
Thank you, Aparna. I am using this poem to bring people into meditation for my solstice ceremonies this year. The repeated line acts like a mantra, and I ask the participants to enter their meditations contemplating the last few words. Of course, you can do this as an individual, too.
Solstice Blessings,
Joyce
Lovely! Thank you.
I'd love you to post this on Facebook, so it could be shared more widely. It is a wonderful reflection.
Sandra, you'll love this irony. I was in such a hurry to organize my solstice celebration the day I got your comment, I only noticed the first line. However, I must have heard the 2nd one with my inner ear, as I did post the poem today on FB.
My posts are shared automatically on my Radical Virgo page on FB, but I have the most followers on JoyceMason. I post only select ones on astrology there, since my friends include both astrologers and friends and relatives who aren't into astrology at all. So I try not to astrobabble too much! :)
Thanks for your support and friendship. Happy Solstice!
What year has this been?
Caught up in days’ parade; now take it in.
Peaceful moments safe with friends and kin.
Joys of open grace, sad tinge of want.
Simple blessings, taunts of goals beyond.
Under rambling clouds, upon solid ground,
jaunty walk intent on happy thoughts.
