Eclipsed

Poem © 2017 by Joyce Mason

We travel the world
to stand under its path of totality.
We risk our sight to see the Light blotted out.
Dramatic total darkness—it’s lore and legend,
hopes and fears—captivates the entire planet,
brings life to a standstill
necks craned, eager to watch the Cosmic Lack of Light Show.

Back in everydayness, smaller versions of this divine shadow,
This light/dark reset, occur at least daily or whenever we want them:

Sunrise/sunset
the solstices
and any time we close our eyes
To enter into the holiness of darkness and silence
which does not eclipse our light
but renews it.
