PsychKicks©: Synchronicity Made Simple

In my previous post, Psychic Impressions, I covered the topic of “cosmic repetitions.” These are little scraps of experience or information that repeat themselves in your life, usually three times or more. Once you hit the magic trio number, you’ve probably got a synchronicity on your hands, a meaningful coincidence. So if you still don’t think you’ve got a psychic bone in your body, let’s move from focusing on your bones and whole body to observing and counting those syncs in hand.

You may expect this kind of tuning-in to be more complicated than it actually is. It’s no different than the game many of us played with siblings or cousins on long car rides. Count the number of red cars! In this case, you just look for repetitious occurrences. The best way I can illustrate is to share a recent sync in my own life that held a simple message.

I noticed this summer that in addition to having a therapist named Andrew (Andy), my new plumber was also named Andy. I like them both a great deal. I have been using Insight Timer for content and tracking in my meditation practice. The other day, I also noticed that the two Timer teachers whose meditations I use most are both named Andrew. Hmm. Not just three but four Andrews. All of them involved in making my life better. (Another Andy delivered food to us from Door Dash just after my first draft of this post.)

Being a symbols player, I immediately looked up the meaning of the name. Andrew means manly or masculine. At first I thought how generic. I wondered what that had to do with the price of eggs.

That’s the thing. You can’t stop when the symbolism doesn’t jump up, grab and shake you. You have to contemplate it a little. It didn’t take me long to realize I should ponder what was going on with masculine energy in my own life.

For starters, I should give you the context that I have Mars in Cancer, not the easiest Mars sign to express. (As I heard someone put it, it’s hard to be nurturing and mad at the same time.) That aside, I started thinking about how many Aries women I have for close friends and how I admire their ability to cut through any crap and just do it, whatever it is. My gearshift is often stuck in park while I wade through all the fear and other emotions that come up around what I have to do, especially if it means being very assertive and possibly testy. Talk about the sideways crab walk. My vehicle has a stick shift as in easily stuck.

My Mars has been really tested in the past couple years, and there is more Marsy behavior that I need to assert in the year to come. Thus, the message of all those “masculine” Andys. Now to come to terms with the message and how I can operate more directly. As if giving me that cosmic nod that I got the message, I had a dream about an old love recently. My first spiritual teacher/psychic told me that I dream about this man when I need to assert my masculine side.

So here’s my simple formula for finding and interpreting synchronicities in your own life.

Treat your synchronicities like a Leo Lion
who loves to be noticed.

How to Develop Your Synch Sensitivity
  1. Notice when a topic, name, place, experience—whatever—happens twice. By three times, know there’s usually a message.
  2. If there’s a name or concept involved that you can look up, do a few minutes of research for some dispassionate light on the subject. Or ask a friend or trusted advisor for input.
  3. Once you’ve got a clue from research or your own hunches, sit with it. Meditate on it a little. Write down what you find out.
  4. If there’s something you need to act on, take the final step and shift into drive. Have a good trip.

I hope this helps you hone that synch-ing feeling and to use it for all its worth—usually a lot. We all love to be noticed. Treat your synchronicities like a Leo who loves to be the center of attention, and you’ll be rewarded with loyalty and more fun than you thought this “random” universe had to offer.

PsychKicks© -- Am I Losing It Or Just Not Getting It?

Synchronicity, intuition, cosmic signals

Like many people of a certain age, I sometimes forget words or names—or what I did yesterday.

When I couldn’t retrieve the name of two vegetables just days apart, I started wondering if I was becoming one. As far as I know, no one in my family on either side has had dementia. But really, who could forget the name of butternut squash and zucchini?

This really started to worry me. Of course, being a Virgo, I worry about my health a lot more than anything is ever actually wrong with me. In fact, I’ve had such good health reports lately; I wondered if the lab mixed up my results with someone else’s.

Since the nameless veggies really bugged me, I started to realize that my mental misses had a pattern. I forgot the names of two different squashes. Was I trying to squash something in my life?

While it might seem like a stretch to many people, the universe holds limitless metaphors for me and has a really wild sense of humor. I have just learned to listen--to consider in any situation that there might be a message.

This one was a two-parter. Soon I was forgetting names left and right, the names of movie stars and mere mortals. People I’ve known for years. I’d start to refer to them in a conversation and—presto!—whatever I was supposed to call them vanished. This kind of magic I want no part of.

OK, Universe. So I got to thinking that this pattern might have a message, too. Everyone forgets a name now and then, but this was happening with much greater frequency than usual for a couple of days.

What is a name, I asked myself? It’s a tagline of who we are. It’s our energy. It’s how people identify us. Hmm. Identity. Was I squashing mine? Squashing myself?

That was it exactly. I am a writer. I have written about how it’s the air I breathe and who I am. It was no longer bearable to let other responsibilities keep me from writing, even if I only had time to write a little.

That’s another reason PsychKicks was born. Once I unsquashed myself, the words just wouldn’t let up. You can always tell if you got the cosmic punchline by how you feel afterwards.

I feel like a million dollars.

This Week’s Question

Do you look for messages? If not, try it!

I’d love you to share your results in the Comments.

My Birth Day Twins

© 2017 by Joyce Mason

At least 20 years ago, when I used AOL as my internet provider, I searched the member directory to find other people who shared my exact date of birth. I wanted to do some experiential, personal research on my chart. I only ended up having a depth conversation with one of the handful of respondents, and our life parallels were interesting indeed. Since I was born late in the day on September 22, 1947, I have a Cap Moon and my “twin” was born enough earlier in the day to be a Sagi-Moon-ius. Seeing my chart acted out with the difference in lunar flavor was interesting indeed. While I can’t remember her name to save my soul, it was a bit unusual but not unheard of and started with a W. (No relation to former President W.) With her Sag Moon, love of travel and things foreign were more prominent in our otherwise near-identical charts. She was a diplomat who had been stationed over the years in several different countries overseas. I saw a lot of our shared Libran emphasis, too, in matters of justice and saving the tails of Americans abroad when they got into trouble.

Perhaps the most startling thing about our compared notes was this. She had married her first husband twice—divorced and remarried him later, just as I had. I almost felt eerie. On top of that, she outdid me! She married, divorced and remarried both of her husbands. Who knew that our particular Venus in Libra experienced coupling and mind-changing so seamlessly; we applied it to matrimonial do-overs.

My next encounter with a birthday twin was totally unexpected. I don’t have the most common day, much less day and year of birth. I’ve been attending an amazing class on Mindful Self-Compassion. I can remember joking beforehand that the class would have to be custom-made for a Virgo, much less a Radical Virgo. With Mercury as our Sun ruler (mind and mental emphasis) and self-deprecation one of our worst potholes on the road of life, I felt I was Home Sweet Home even before I even got to the first class.

There I met W2. (It’s tax season so I can’t help myself, but honestly, her first name begins with a W., too.) We were sitting next to each other in the first class and got to talking about how we were both turning 70 this year. I have long given up accosting people for their birth information on the first “date,” and I consciously chose not to take it further. We had an affinity, and that was warm and fuzzy enough. The biggest wow we discovered in our first encounter: I was given up for adoption and she had to give a baby up for adoption when she was quite young. We’d both had positive mother-and-child reunions.

The next time I saw W2, it came up again. I asked her what month she was turning 70, and she said September. When I asked her what day and she said the 22nd, I almost fell off my chair. “OMG, we’re birth twins!” You think I might have guessed by the fact that she had such a “similar story,” to quote her, and that she loves my former therapist, an author of an amazing book about the psychology and ramifications of adoption.

My friends may call me The Queen of Synchronicity, but I hadn’t had this level of meaningful coincidence in a long time. Conditions haven’t been right again until lately for me to be so in the flow of the Cosmic Tractor Beam. I’ve had way too much on my plate adjusting to being a caregiver and other life changes. The class is giving me tools that are bringing me back to my old self, which this “chance” encounter underscores. W2 is hunting down her birth certificate, but since she knows hers was an early morning birth to my evening, she’s surely a Sagi-moon-ius, too, like W1.

What is the value of finding a birth twin? Affirmation for one. W2 was sharing how hard it is for her to give her honest opinion, fearing push back and an inability to defend herself. She could have taken that sentence right out of my thought cloud where it frequently resides.

There’s also the possibility of seeing new ways of “doing” your chart. Everyone plays the Astro-cards they’re dealt in slightly different ways, and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can learn from W2 in that regard—and vice versa, I’m sure.

We have a lot of tools for finding people nowadays. If you’re on social media, a simple post or tweet saying you’d like to do some astrological research on people who share your birthday. State the date and see who connects with you.

I would love to hear your experiences and what value you’ve found in getting to know your cosmic twin.

An Answered Prayer

A dear friend and I have gone to the same manicurist for some time. I was shocked when I phoned recently for an appointment to find out that “Ami” had left the salon where I saw her for years. My friend and I were brokenhearted to lose our connection with her.

The salon owner was eager to hook me up with another manicurist and not to lose me as a customer. Her lips were sealed for any information about Ami, and I was pretty certain she’d claim ignorance of her whereabouts. I didn’t even bother to ask, thinking it was probably impolite to be so obvious about the fact that I’m loyal to my manicurist, not so much to whichever salon she happens to work for. At my next appointment with someone else at the old salon, I heard another customer express her deep disappointment to lose Ami.

I probably should explain: I come from a family of hairdressers, and because of it, I have unusual standards about my relationships with providers of personal services. Changing hairdressers or manicurists is a very big deal for me, and they are part therapist as well as glamorizers to me. Losing those people in my life is tantamount to a divorce. It’s traumatic. (Read more on this topic in my article Bartenders, Beauticians and Baristas.) My reliance on these heroes to fulfill the needs of my Venus-driven astrology chart is a major bond of trust, and the time I spend with them represents some of my few hours of relaxation and letting go in my whirlwind life. They need have to have good energy, as they’re part of something much bigger in my life than a cut, color or pedicure. They put new life into me with along with a coat of nail polish or hair color, and it’s all about the love and vibes that go with it. (My hairdresser and I hug and say we love each other all the time.)

How could I ever find Ami? I didn’t figure I could stand in the middle of town and yell her name and hope she’d run out of one of the dozens of nail salons in our small city.  I assumed she was lost to us.

For some time, I’d been eyeing the nail salon next to our neighborhood Rubio’s restaurant where my husband and I often have dinner or get take-out. That was even before losing Ami. In fact I wondered, given I was so happy with Ami, why this salon seemed to have some sort of curious draw to me. Once I heard about her disappearance, I figured it’d be a good place to explore for someone new since it was “vibing” at me. It’s near home and I eat and shop in the vicinity often.

The other night, I was going to pick up food at Rubio’s. I looked at the salon, peeked in the window and thought to myself that I should check their prices when I came back out from buying dinner.

By then, I was in my exhaustion mode, how I get by early evening after a hard day—so tired, I couldn’t even remember where I parked, much less continue to think about manicures. Standing between the salon and the restaurant, I was trying to get my bearings about my car. Suddenly I realized someone was calling out my name with great enthusiasm. I turned around …

… and it was Ami! I was so excited to see her. We hugged like long lost relatives, and I told her I’d been so sad, thinking I’d lost her forever. The salon that kept standing out in my mind in yellow highlighter is her new place of work.

If you read my blogs often, you probably won’t be surprised that this happened to me … because these things happen to me a lot. It’s because I’m intuitive, and that “thing” that was drawing me to the new nail salon was a message from Spirit. If Ami hadn’t found me first, surely, I’d have followed that pull and found her myself, sooner or later.

This story proves that Spirit is whispering messages to us all the time. It was even hinting at the answer to my prayer before I even knew I was going to have a need. Intuition is Spirit Within. The universe answers our prayers all the time, but sometimes we just aren’t listening or picking up the signals.

So here’s a prayer I wrote for sensory tune-ups:

Eternal Light, help me see your hints, hear your clues and recognize your pulls toward fulfillment of my needs and desires. Remind me often that all prayers are answered, maybe not in the way I expect—and at other times, in ways much bigger and better than I ever imagined. Lead me on the exciting journey of seeing my ability to manifest what I need in the material world. Thank you for the joy of discovering my own creative power.

May you find what you lose and love what you find!
