Moon

Poem © 2016 by Joyce Mason

My mom's Aries Moon:
Fierce, protective
rib-crunching hugs
teamed with Venus in Scorpio,
a magnetic undertow of smother love.

I see mirrored in my cat’s eyes:
fiery love and fear of loss,
hot temper,
the craving and no-thank-you’s,
the Eternal Mother’s Day
of intense nurturing
big as all outdoors--
my heart strings wrapped
around the universe
defending the realm.

Ritual for Turning the Calendar

Poem © 2013 by Joyce Mason

We turn the page
on Time:

sometimes because the month
has ended
sometimes to look ahead.

These are sacred moments
to stop, reflect:
are we on the same page
with the flow of life?
Are we in The Now
The Past
or looking too far
into The Future?

Grant me the wisdom
to plan as best I can for tomorrow
while living squarely in the moment.

Bless those squares
on the calendar,
there to remind us.

Monday Meditation

Poem © 2013 by Joyce Mason

Blessed be
“back to work”
the gear-up
from the gear-down
the yin and yang
of life

I pause to consider
this day named for the Moon.
I pay her homage.

What shall I give to the Moon
at the toil-gate of this week?

Prayer on a Full Moon

Poem © 2013 by Joyce Mason
All Rights Reserved

Like grace after meals
I thank the universe
for a belly full
of this lunar month

seeds of new start-ups
growing inside me
bloating me with new promise
fulfillment

I think about what to name you
babies of the Moon Mother
offspring of my wild intuition
knowing
that you join a family
fertile with wild abandon
my long cycle of Moonchildren
silver balloons
that when it comes to creativity
have no strings.

Blessing for an Astrology Meeting

Poem © 2013 by Joyce Mason

May our Mercuries join
in communion of knowledge.

May we see Venus, the beauty in others
but have Mars handy when it’s time for action.

May Jupiter rise
to make our time together fun
and to keep us ever-thirsty to learn.

May Saturn give us enough organization
 to keep us on track
without stifling our creativity.

May Chiron bring us healing and wholeness
if we stumble onto the broken parts of ourselves
and in the pain discover a catalyst for fulfillment.

Uranus, patron saint!
May you keep us excited, engaged, a-buzz
and alive.

Neptune, source of inspiration,
compassion and unity:

Help us share our visions and emotions
 to listen with sensitivity
to join our creativity
to see ourselves in each other.

Pluto, Lord God of the Underworld:
help us remember that Darth Vader
was once a Jedi Knight
as we all are inside.

May we be one Sun in our time together
shining enlightenment
experiencing the alchemy and paradox
that only by being our unique selves
do we create community.
