Great Spirit Prayer

"Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the wind,
Whose breath gives life to all the world.

Hear me; I need your strength and wisdom.
Let me walk in beauty, and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset.

Make my hands respect the things you have made
and my ears sharp to hear your voice

Make me wise so that I may understand the things you have taught my people.
Help me to remain calm and strong in the face of all that comes towards me.
Let me learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock.

Help me seek pure thoughts and act with the intention of helping others.
Help me find compassion without empathy overwhelming me.
I seek strength, not to be greater than my brother,
but to fight my greatest enemy - Myself.

Make me always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes.
So when life fades, as the fading sunset,
my spirit may come to you without shame.

Recommendation from The Radical Virgo:
Change terms as needed to fit your own belief system. There are so many names for Higher Power: God, Goddess, All That Is, Lord/Lady, Spirit and the Universe to name a few.

Past Prayers Worth Repeating

Dear Radical Readers,

Enjoy these favorite posts from previous years while I gather some new prayers and gratitude posts for 2016. I'm going back to doing a gratitude journal--always a great activity but especially in November. There are multiple prayers in the middle two links, so dig deep into the prayer pool. Our world and everyone in it needs more inspiration than usual in these times of upheaval and change.

And as my favorite Facebook forward says--a familiar but slightly altered sign when you're "not out of the woods" yet with anxiety--Please don't feed the fears.

Thank you for you,
Joyce

A Native American Chief’s Prayer

May the stars carry your sadness away,
May the flowers fill your heart with beauty,
May hope forever wipe away your tears,
And, above all, may silence make you strong.

Apache Blessing

May the sun bring you new energy by day,
May the moon softly restore you by night,
May the rain wash away your worries,
May the breeze blow new strength into your being,
May you walk gently through the world and know its beauty
All the days of your life.

Native American Thanksgiving Prayer

Great and Eternal Mystery of Life,
Creator of All Things,
I give thanks for the beauty You put in every single one of Your creations.
I am grateful that every stone, plant, creature, and human being is a perfect and whole part of the Sacred Hoop.
I am grateful for the strength and beauty of All My Relations.
My humble request is that all of the Children of Earth will learn to see the same perfection in themselves.
May none of Your human children doubt or question Your wisdom, grace, and sense of wholeness in giving all of Creation a right to be living extensions of Your perfect love.

Native American Prayer for Peace

O Great Spirit of our Ancestors

I raise my pipe to you.

To your messengers the four winds, and

to Mother Earth who provides

for your children.

Give us the wisdom to teach our children

to love, to respect, and to be kind to each

other so that they may grow

with peace in mind.

Let us learn to share all good things that

you provide for us on this Earth.

Pueblo Blessing

Hold onto what is good even if it is a handful of earth.
Hold onto what you believe even when it is a tree
which stands by itself.
Hold onto what you must do even if it is a long way from here.
Hold onto life even when it is easier letting go.
Hold onto my hand even when I have gone away from you.

A Native American Prayer for Healing

Mother, sing me a song that will
Ease my pain, mend my broken bones
Bring wholeness again.
Catch my babies when they are born,
Sing my death song,
Teach me how to mourn.
Show me the medicine of the healing herbs,
The value of spirit,
The way I can serve.
Mother, heal my heart
So that I can see the gifts of yours
That can live through me.

I found this prayer in a collection of Native American Prayers in a brochure at our local hospital's chapel. I cannot imagine a more Chironic prayer. As Chiron is the informal patron saint of this blog, I am happy to share this as the 300th post on The Radical Virgo. Thank you for your support and for converging here for healing, insights and laughter.

A Cherokee Prayer/Blessing

May the warm winds of heaven blow softly upon your house,

May the Great Spirit bless all who enter there,

May your moccasins make happy tracks in many snows,

And may the rainbow always touch your shoulder.
