Midday Meditation

Poem © 2013 by Joyce Mason

I pause to look up:

ask for help
with the conditions
in the sky.

Sunny, partly cloudy,
rain, snow, sleet …

It’s not the content of the sky
that matters
only my relationship to it

though umbrellas, sunscreens
and boots
speak well of my friendship
with Mercury.
